Science at St. John's grabs the children's attention with its dynamic and varied approach. At every opportunity the children are encouraged to explore and investigate the scientific concepts which they are learning about, as well as their own ideas and theories. The St. John's approach is hands on, because we firmly believe that
experimenting helps you discover more about the way things work and why certain phenomena happen in the world around us.
St. John's offers children a structured learning programme for Science that introduces them to the main concepts that are laid out in both the National Curriculum and Common Entrance syllabuses. Our results for Key Stage 2 SATs are a testament to the high achievements of our pupils (96% at Level 5).
Through the teaching of Science at St. John's the children learn the discipline of
carrying out investigations in a methodical and rigorous manner. They are encouraged to develop a range of skills including hypothesizing, observing, measuring and recording.
During the academic year, classroom teaching is supplemented with trips to the Science Museum and workshops held in school by visiting professionals. We are also lucky enough to host the Kinetic Theatre every year - a theatrical company that enriches scientific learning through music, drama and comedy.
