John's we are very passionate
about netball. The girls
learn and play netball throughout
1st and 6th Forms, working
on developing a range of
skills such as ball handling
and control, passing, receiving,
signalling, court order,
channelling, dodging, shooting,
footwork, attacking, defending,
centre pass tactics, tactical
play and set play. The girls
also work on developing their
knowledge on the rules of
the game, official umpiring
Form pupils each year are involved
with coaching and umpiring
the younger netball squads
as part of completing their
Volunteering and Skills sections
of the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Recently a few pupils have
also attended and England Netball
Umpiring course in order to
gain an official England Netball
qualification and become qualified
umpires. Various pupils also
had the opportunity to attend
a netball trip to watch a 'Superleague' netball match, involving the finest netball players in the UK, including International and England Netball players.
At St. John's all the girls have the opportunity to participate in extra curricular netball. Netball squads are selected and play a variety of friendly and competitive league fixtures against a range of schools including, State, Academy and Independent Schools. Pupils from 1st to 4th Forms also have the opportunity to take part in a yearly inter-house netball competition.
